At Calverro, we like to be as fresh as the women in our lifestyle photos. There is no room in our lives for stinky helmets and gloves!
We found a really good recipe for a homemade spray for your helmet and your gloves. Since the coronavirus changed our world, rubbing alcohol is a bit harder to find but you can swap it out for a bit of vodka. If you’re like me, you always have some on hand in the freezer, ready to make that summer Seabreeze or Sunday brunch Bloody Mary (with lots of olives!). Check out this fantastic recipe, courtesy of Decidedly Equestrian.
What you'll need:
We recommend tea tree oil– it kills bacteria, fungus, yeast and other nastiness. Lavender, lemon and any other citrus, rosemary or peppermint also work nicely. Any or a mixture of any of these or a will do a good job of deodorizing. I am partial to a mix of tea tree oil and rosemary.
Pour vodka (or rubbing alcohol) in spray bottle with your funnel, but don’t over fill (you can pour some in your glass with some grapefruit juice while you’re at it). Add your essential oil drops until you reach the right fragrance mix and concentration. Don’t overdo the essential oils or you risk skin sensitivity. Adding no more than 2% total volume should work perfectly. Put the lid on, shake to mix, and spray!
Shake before each use and spray on your stinky stuff. Helmets, gloves, car fabric upholstery, jackets, etc. Store in a cool, dry place. Keep it in your tack trunk, tack room, car, office or wherever you want that fresh feeling!
And don't forget your hair net!
